Let height of water column in the tank be h. Total pressure (p) = atmospheric pressure (p 0 ) +

pressure due to water column in tank (p’)

∴ p’ = p – p 0 = 3 – 1 = 2 atm

or h ρ g = 2 × 10 5

or h × 10 3 × 10 = 2 × 10 5

or h = 20 m

Hence, velocity of water coming from hole ie, velocity of efflux is
